Rekia Boyd was a 22 year old black woman who lived in Chicago, Illinois. She was hanging out with a group of friends late at night at night. Dante Servin, a white off-duty police officer got a noise complaint from a citizen and saw Boyd with her friends. The details are unclear but it is known that he approached the group in his car. One of Boyd’s friends told Servin to “Get his Crackhead ass out of here” and in reaction Servin pulled out his gun and shot out of his window into the group. His shot hit Boyd directly in the head and she was immediately killed. Servin was charged with involuntary manslaughter but was later cleared of all charges. He resigned from Chicago PD in 2016 before he could be fired.
