Exhibit 5

King's Haven Company Logo

Revised design above. Original design below.

Background: This is a potential logo for a friend's future company, designed to be used as a banner on a Facebook page. Their last name is "King", and their future company would include a hobby gaming store as well as offering individual and group therapy. While discussing the logo with my friend, she said that they had a logo but did not like it because it looked "thrown together". I created a survey to obtain more information about my friend's needs to guide the design. Some results of the survey questions follow:

Who is your target customer/audience? Mainly young and middle-aged adults. Some teens.

What would you like your target customer/audience to think then they see this design? A fun, but safe and welcoming place. Feel like they are royalty.

What style do you prefer? Professional with some embellishments.

Do you have preferred elements to include? We kind of like the idea of emphasizing the K in King's. We are open to considering something with crowns, dragons, etc. Think fantasy and royalty.

Do you have preferred colors? Royal purple, royal red, royal gold... or similar.

Design:

  • Contrast: The light color of the yellow contrasts with the darker red and purple. The sans serif font of the slogan contrasts with the script decorative font of the company name. The size and weight of the slogan contrasts the size and weight of the company name. The italics font of "your" contrasts with the regular font and was italicized to emphasize the focus on the individual that would be served by this company.

  • Repetition: The yellow color is repeated in the text and the crown. The text of both the company name and slogan include beveling.

  • Alignment: The company name is aligned to the left. The slogan is aligned to the second letter after the K to be next to the crest. The company name are aligned closer to the top of the page with the crown in the lower right corner for counterweight. This alignment was selected to bring attention to the company name while allowing for the Facebook profile picture to appear in the center of the design without covering the name.

  • Proximity: The company name and slogan are in proximity to indicate relation.

  • Color: The colors were selected based on the preference of the client. The purple and yellow are the main colors and are complementary, which provide good contrast. A darker color was selected for the background to allow for a lighter color of text. The warm color of yellow was selected for the text to cause the text to come forward to be the main focus of the design.

  • Additional design considerations: The design of the "K" can be repeated on other company items.

Photoshop:

  • Convert to smart objects.

  • Free transform, resize, and rotate.

  • Bevel and emboss and color overlay.

  • Text boxes with horizontal text.

  • The crown was removed from the background using select subject and select and mask features.

  • Each element was created on a separate layer.

  • The eye dropper tool to match the color of the text to the crown.

  • Bevel & emboss, inner glow, and drop shadow added to text.

  • Created a pattern from a texture to apply to the crest.

  • Rectangle and triangle tools used to create crest.

  • Paint brushes used to paint background.

  • Texture layer used. Top layer used with soft light filter and decreased opacity.

  • Satin effect.

Revisions:

After feedback, the following changes were made:

  • The crest, company name, and company logo were moved down and to the right to allow for equal top and left margins thus aligning the corner of the crest with the corner of the design.

  • The font of the logo was changed to Roboto (available in Photoshop) to allow for more similarity with the font of the company name while maintaining contrast by using a sans serif font. The "C" in "change" is more narrow, making the letter look taller, matching the regal height of the letters in the company name. The "g" in "change" is similar to the way the "g" is written in the company name. The curve on the "y" is also similar to the curves in the letters in the company name.

  • Although one peer suggested filling the white space in the bottom left, this space was left empty to allow for some white space to exist, to account for a Facebook profile picture that would be in front of this design, and to counter balance the elements in the top left with the bottom right.
