Pope Tech Accessibility Project

For our group project in ITLS 6535, we were tasked with designing a solution to help Pope Tech customers act to address website accessibility issues. Pope Tech is a company that provides a tool to identify website accessibility issues.

Group members: Jeff Adams, Siya Chen, Bruno Delfino, Emilee Packer

Personas

Our group considered a variety of individuals who would be involved with a company addressing website accessibility concerns, including the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Technology Officer, the Director of User Experience, and the web developers. We chose to focus on the Director of User Experience as this individual would likely have more involvement with managing a team to addressing website accessibility issues.

User Flowchart

The user flow chart indicated details the steps a user would take to address accessibility issues that were identified in the Pope Tech report. We focused on the users' potential needs to address why they should fix the issues, how to fix the issues, and what issues need to be fixed. Support is provided in each area to overcome potential barriers to fixing the accessibility issues.

A user would be able to access information on the impact of website accessibility issues on a company, stories about people with disabilities, and example experiences to provide a multifaceted rationale for addressing website accessibility issues.

A user would be able to access information on how to approach fixing accessibility issues that were identified in the Pope Tech report to support businesses in making decisions about timing, budgeting resources, and project management.

A user would be able to reference a dashboard that would state the accessibility issues that were discovered by Pope Tech. Solutions would be recommended. The user would be able to reference tips and tricks to learn how to address specific accessibility issues. Contacting Pope Tech to request trainings or to ask questions would be simple and straightforward to allow the user to work quickly and efficiently.

Wireframe

Our wireframe included a site that would allow easy access to necessary tools and resources to supporter a user as the address accessibility issues. As mentioned before, this multifaceted approach supports a user's understanding of the issues as they relate to their company and their website users, provides information and resources to address learning needs to address the issues, identifies the issues that need to be addressed, and provides easy access to support from Pope Tech. Interview

I completed a think aloud interview with a database administrator at a university who manages primarily the administrative features and works with students, faculty members, and the database company. The interviewee discussed their thought process and potential actions while going through the wireframe, particularly the "Tips and Tricks" and "Support" sections. Throughout this process, the interviewee provided reinforcing feedback, such as commenting on the ease of navigation due to familiar screen layout, and provided insights for improvements, such as commenting on the lack of a search bar.

Prototype

Our prototype resulted in a higher fidelity product with improvements based on feedback. The prototype allows access to all of the sections that are meant to support a customer when addressing website accessibility issues. Experience the full prototype here.
