While watching the three episodes of Narcos, we came across many different interesting components. To be specific, the episodes showed that the Hero is not always the same character, some episodes may contain more than one sequence of events, and there is very minimal similarities in comparison to other shows.
Megan- A surprising aspect of the show, which I would have ignored before, is how shows like such can follow multiple different timelines within one episode. Following the Proppian format, events can be occurring simultaneously in the same episode, yet they can be part of a different story. The example which I believe works best with this situation is the start of S3E2 in which there are two initial situations. This shows that the sequence of events is not specific to one example. An odd situation which I encountered was how the sequence of events seemed to be out of order in some instances, i.e. mediation could come before reconnaissance in the same story. I'm unsure if this was a misinterpretation of the events or if they purposefully did this. Because of the format of the show, some aspects of it did not follow the format of other TV shows available, except for the subject itself which can be viewed on shows such as Law and Order, Criminal Minds, etc.
Kelsey - Something that was striking about the show was the fact that the hero was not always the same person. Going in, I expected the hero to always be the same character, and I expected that character to be the narrator. However, after doing these analyses, I found that the hero could be any character depending on the episode, not necessarily just the narrator. In fact, not only the hero, but all of the actors could be different from episode to episode. I feel like this adds diversity to the narrative, and helps to keep it interesting. I also found it interesting how stark the binary oppositions could be once they were spotted. After they were identified, I saw them everywhere. I discovered that Narcos dealt with some surprisingly complex oppositions. These included social oppositions, like fake good guys vs. real good guys, and more political oppositions, like Colombians vs. Americans and the DEA vs the Narcos.
