Time
- Narrative structured by time
- Narrative endings are similar to beginning, but different
Sequential Events
- Kernels: Indispensible to the plot, must occur for story to go on
- Satellites: Not necessary for plot, can be in the story or can be taken out with story still making sense. Optional
Action Before Character
- Character is a function of the action/plot. What a character does only matters in how it adds to the plot
- Actions are important, not the characters

Hermeneutic: Pulls us through to get to the resolution.

Character:

Character only exists as a function to the plot
A psychological approach is often taken by readers (connecting with characters), but plot is actually more important
Character is static unless plot pushes them forward
