Significant Rule Changes for 2024

Useful Information

Entries can only be made online via the entries page (it is no longer possible to enter by post).

There are lots of trophies up for grabs during the weekend, both for the main competition and the special challenges.

The camp is run to a timetable, which sets out what will be judged and when, and there are a number of rules relating to various aspects of the camp.

Parents, Leaders and Scouts alike will find it useful to know what to expect on Friday evening and what to expect on Sunday afternoon.  Special rules apply to visitors at other times.

Permission to Camp

Online permission to camp forms (one per person) will need to be completed a few weeks before the camp.  A notification will be sent to the email addresses submitted on the entry form.

Judges’ Section

The judges’ section contains briefing material for judges.

District/Troop Events

Districts/Troops organising their own camping competitions or practice camps may wish to use the printable score sheets available on the Judging page.

Some Districts hold their own camping competitions, sometimes referred to as 'District Eliminators' if they are used to select which Patrol(s) are to represent the District at the County final (though any Group can take part in the County Emlyn competition - there is no need to have attended a 'District Eliminator' - see the Entries page for details).  Other Districts (and sometimes individual Troops) hold practice weekends in preparation for the County final.

If you are able to add any information to the history of district eliminators, please contact us.

Badge Criteria

Participation in the Emlyn Trophy can count towards achievement of several activity badges and challenge awards.

Interesting Information

The competition has a long history, and records of some previous results are available.  For recent years, there is a graph of number of entries per year,  a Patrol Leaders’ Hall of Fame, the date of the last known appearance of each district and pictures of the camp badges.    There is some information about Charles Willmore Emlyn, the man who gave the competition its name, and details of the history of each trophy.

Pass It On

We often hear that information about the competition is not reaching those who are interested in taking part, or that people have not heard of the Emlyn.  Please let others know about this website and pass on the url: https://sites.google.com/view/emlyn/home.  You can also find us on Facebook: Hampshire County Emlyn Trophy.
