Final performance evaluation
For my final performance with GRLBND overall i think that our performance went really well, if we were to perform again there are only a few slight things that i would do differently.
Lighter girl- To start off, i think that our performance of Lighter girl overall went the best it has ever gone for us, compared to our practices of this song i would say it was one of our weaker songs towards the start. One of the things during the song that i think made the song sound so amazing was the tempo change after the first chorus, the energy was so high and i think that vocally myself and Emily really smashed this one. This was one of my favourite songs that we performed which i didn't think would be the case as during our rehearsals this is one of the songs along with silver lining that didn't get quite as much rehearsal as the other songs on our EP (Don't come any closer). I think that whilst playing this song the bend were so together and in time with each other making a great overall performance of this song. Despite this song going really well for us as a band i do feel like there are some things that could have been improved. Just before the tempo change myself and Emily shout "1 2 3 4" to indicate the change in the song, i think this part of the song was okay but could have definitely been a bit stronger from my part as when i listen back i can hear and feel myself hesitating to go full out. I think i hesitated as i got a bit nervous before hand, i also think that this was the case when me and Emily sung " La La La La La" just after the punky part of the song kicked in. The only other part of the song that i would do slightly differently would be towards the end of the song when Emily and i repeat the lyric "my lighter girl" over and over harmonising with each other, i think that our harmonies could have been a bit stronger on that part as well and next time we perform this song i will be more sure on how i want to sing it. Overall i really enjoyed performing this song and think that for the most part we all performed it really strongly.
Amoristic Killer- Amoristic killer from the start has been one of our most strong songs to perform, i think that the whole band played Amoristic killer really well and i think overall there wasn't much that we could have improved on within this song. With this song in particular, during rehearsals we struggled with the tempo of the song (sometimes speeding the song up and sometimes slowing it down) whereas in the performance i feel that the tempo was pretty perfect. Whilst performing this song i feel that all the members of the band performed with confidence, this is one of the songs i enjoy performing as Me and Emily both perform at the front of the stage together rather than her being on piano which she is for a lot of our other songs. I enjoy performing with Emily next to me as i tend to feel more confident and sure of what i'm doing, i just in general enjoy singing alongside Emily.
Shes Mine- Shes mine was the first song we wrote together as a band and is personally my favourite song to sing and perform. I think that as a collective Shes Mine was by far one of our strongest and confident song to perform. One of the things that i think went really well during this song was the pause between the bridge and the last chorus, this was something we changed about the song during some of our last rehearsals. I think it makes the song sound amazing as during the pause me and Emily are still singing, despite it being such a slight change i really think it made a big difference to the final outcome of Shes Mine. During the last chorus of the song i really love mine and Emilys harmonies, towards the end of the chorus they become a lot more dissonant and almost ghost like which i think makes it sound really interesting. Since starting off this song in week one o performing it now i feel like it has come such a long way and the improvement is super noticeable in everyone, Casey and Lucie always play so well in sync and are also always communicating while on stage which makes for an easier smoother performance. Despite me saying all these great things about our performance of shes mine, there were still some imperfections and things that i feel could definitely be improved on. One thing for myself that i still need to work on for suture performances of this song is my breath control going from the first verse to the chorus at the start, you can hear me lose my breath as im singing ' running out of time'. If you werent listening closely you probably wouldnt even notice but as im so used to singing this song i can hear where i need to improve. Overall i think this was one of the strongest songs we performed of the evening.
Cognitive Misconduct- Cognitive Misconduct is the song where i feel like the vibe of our whole EP changes, this song is a lot slower and more sad than the rest of the songs. This was one of the songs again that we didnt practice as much but i honestly dont think you can really tell as we all performed it with so much confidence and passion. One of the things that i like about the song is how simple but effective the instrumentation of the song is, the drums in this song compared to our others are much more simple. I think this works so well as this song has quite powerful lyrics in need of being heard, the more simple instrumentation of guitar piano and drums intensifies the powerful lyrics written. I think that we all performed this song really well but like the other songs part of our EP there will always be things that either myself or the others in GRLBND could improve upon. The only part of the song that i personally feel like i could have sang better would be the end of the song where i start off the section as a higher harmony then on the last 2 lines go to the lower harmony. The higher harmony sounded okay from me but i know that i could have done it better, during this performance i also had a bad throat so did exceed my own expectations of how well i would do. During rehearsals of this song i also struggled with finding the harmony in particular at the very end of the song as a lot of the time i couldnt hear myself so would struggle to realise what note i was supposed to be singing. Overall again i feel like this was a pretty strong performance from us and can see us performing it again for gigs with so much more confidence.
Silver Lining- Before starting to sing Silver Lining it was the one i was dreading to sing the most, not because i dislike the song but because during rehearsals i have struggled a lot with my breating while singing the song. I struggle the most with singing the end of the chorus where me and Emily sing' ohohohohohhhhhh' as i am the higher harmony and most times i sing it you can hear me lose my breath in the middle having to take a breath. This isnt anything major but since starting rehearsals for this song it has always been the thing that i found the most challenging for myself. In attempt to improve this i will change parts of my lifestyle in order to help me be able to sing with more ease (stop vaping). I feel that if i do this i will see and hear a huge change in the way i can sing this song as i do really enjoy performing this song, i just struggle with some parts of the song due to my breath control. Silver Lining is one of our most impactful songs lyric wise i think, thats why again the instrumentation is a bit more simple. This is the final song in our EP where our character has kind of came to terms with everything thats happened, think this was a great final song to finish of our EP and really enjoyed our performance. Overall i think that despite Silver Lining was one of our less practiced songs, i feel like we were all really into it and together with one another. I really enjoyed this performance and look forward to more in the future
