Flash Funding- Flash funding is something that is becoming increasingly more popular as the years go on, this is the process in which fans are pushed to or asked to contribute to an artists project through the band or artists website. Fan funding tends to be managed through social networks as musicians need to build a good fan basis in order to attempt to gain fan funding. In order to release music through crowd funding you must set yourself a goal for example how much money you intend on making in order to either record or make music in some sort of way. This then should encourage fan to pre order the album and if enough of the fans do this then the artist is able to hit their initial goal, sometimes the end goal isn't reachable therefore in this circumstance the artist isnt pushed to produce an album or whatever they were working on.
The Oram Awards- The oram awards is a platform for music and technology that is aimed towards specifically women and people that don't conform to typical gender stereotypes. This platform was named after Daphne Oram, she was a founding director of the amazing BBC Radiophonic Workshop and worked as a composer, engineer and a pioneer of sound and electronics. Orams aim was to show that as a women it can sometimes be difficult to be heard or looked at when you are in a predominantly male work space. This programs main aim is to attempt to impliment long term change and to overcome barriers within the music and sound sector both local and international. This program allows people to enter an awards program, winners are selected and can receive 1000 pounds in order to be able to develop their own creative practice. As well as offering an awards program, this company also provides mentorship for individual winners and also support in sound production and overall each artists own development. They also put on live events and put on panel talks as a part of the live events, as well as this they do workshops in sound and audio which is open to the public allowing more diversity within the music and technology sector.
Glastonbury emerging talent competition- This competition is based around the Uk and Ireland and is open for artists of any genre to give them the chance to potentially play on stage at some big festivals. If you manage to win the competition you will be awarded a £5000 prize from the PRS foundation in order to further your own musical and songwriting skills. If you dont win but are awarded second or third place you will win a £2500 PRS development prize. This competition thrives of diversity and being an inclusive space, everyone is treated fairly and will be not looked down on for any physical or mental flaws. Michelle Escoffery, the president of the PRS members council said " Our continued partnership with Glastonbury festival and our charity foundation aims to discover and champion the trailblazing homegrown talent we have in the Uk and Ireland".
The hitmaker fund- The hitmaker fund offers opportunities specifically for songwriters and producers, offering grants of up to £10000 in order to help people gain more skills in their specific area. The hitmaker fund launched in 2017 responding to the people that work behind the scenes in order to help their long term career needs. This fund was initiated by the PRS foundation. Being either a songwriter or a producer puts you right in the middle of the industry and being supportive of creating new music is the main thing that the company does. On the Hitmaker Funds website there is a video that shows how to apply for this fund, its very easy to do and i think that this is a very important funding foundation within the industry. This could be a useful way for myself to get funding as at the moment something that i am looking into is being a singer songwriter so potentially applying and getting this grant could really help with the opportunities that i can get and also will help develop my skills overall.
Arts council- The arts council is a nationwide agency for both creativity and also culture, they help people to experience creativity and also how to benefit from being more creative. They do this by investing in artists that are creative and that produce incredible work within their own communities. They offer national lottery project grants, you can apply for this and could receive anything from £1000- £10000. This fund also is focussed on artists who are ready to take that next step and people who are ready to create new work and develop as an artist.
Email draft-
To whomever this email may concern,
I have previously completed my final year studying music performance for a UAL extended diploma and Exeter college. My current plans are to go into full time work but if i was given the opportunity i would love to come and do some work experience within a recording studio in order to further my current knowledge.
I have previously had experience recording in a studio in Exeter called The Sound Gallery, where i recorded a song with my band, i have also worked in the studios quite a bit at college so do know my way around a studio. I am happy to come in whenever and would love the chance to gain more experience in this field of work.
Kind Regards,
Ella Breheny
