He was influenced by King Oliver who was the leading New Yorks cornetist. He spent five years in this place but his music advanced rapidly so by 1918 he was playing in jazz bands and was even skilful enough to replace Oliver in kid Ory. Despite Louis tough upbringing he didn't allow that to stop him from doing what he is most passionate for, he is now one of the most influential jazz artists in history. By 1929 Armstrong was famous, he moved from Chicago to New York and he performed in theatre review hot chocolates. He ended up touring America as a trumpet soloist whilst being accompanied by big bands, for years Lois Russell's big band served as the Louis Armstrong band.
