What I love most about #ArbitrationLunchMatch is hearing stories. Some of us were born and raised in Hong Kong. Others of us grew up overseas and found adventure in Hong Kong. All of us are connected by our passion for the law, finding solidarity and community in our profession.
A wonderful lunch today with Gillian Lam, Alice To, Janie Wong and Gokce Uyar.
Gillian Lam has not only been a wonderful co-organiser but now has also become a fast friend.
With deep thanks, as always, to Lisa Reiser and Kate Corby for the chance to get involved in #ArbitrationLunchMatch.
I always get stuck answering that ice breaker question, if you could have a meal with anyone you wanted, who would it be? The question was answered perfectly for me today, as I was matched for a brilliant #ArbitrationLunchMatch with Nina Rahman, Roanna Kwong, Shahla Ali and Susan Finder.
We have all engaged with international dispute resolution from different perspectives: as external counsel, as in-house counsel and as academics.
Hong Kong's arbitration community is diverse and vibrant. Gillian Lam and I are thrilled to have more than 50 participants for 13 lunches over 5 days this week. We join the global #ArbitrationLunchMatch, which has reached more than 16 cities around the world with hundreds more participants.
Kudos to Lisa Reiser for founding #ArbitrationLunchMatch and Kate Corby for the chance to be involved.
Two external counsel, two barristers/arbitrators and one arbitral institution counsel walked into a bar ... and enjoyed fabulous conversation! Today's #ArbitationLunchMatch matched me with Queenie Lau, Kim Rooney, 王笑君 and Eliza Jiang (江鹂韵). We could've kept talking forever.

In NZ, where I grew up, you would hear the phrase, "Ladies, a plate." Or now it would be just "bring a plate". The idea was basically a potluck or BBQ: everyone brings something to eat and the purpose is to enjoy each other's company.
Today was my fifth and final ladies' lunch as part of the inaugural #ArbitrationLunchMatch in Hong Kong. Teresa Wu (Des Voeux Chambers), Pauline Peng (Freshfields), Sylvia Shi (The Swedish Club) and I enjoyed delicious plates of dim sum over captivating conversation both about arbitration and beyond. How fascinating to hear about everyone's experience with disputes from different vantage points, as in-house counsel, external counsel and barrister/arbitrator/judge.
What a wonderful way to round off a wonderful week!
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Who would have thought in 2019 that our world would be such a different one in 2021? From feline filters to waist-up fashion, buffering breakout rooms to rogue unmuted microphones, our lives have become dominated by the joys and discomforts of virtual communication.
Aimed at combatting the inevitable video conferencing fatigue and returning a small sense of 'normality' to social interactions, we would like to offer you the chance to connect (hopefully!) in person with female colleagues as part of our international Arbitration Lunch Match event.
What is Arbitration Lunch Match? We would like to match you with three other senior women working in arbitration to meet for an intimate lunch in your home town. But one key detail will not be revealed: you will not be given the names of the other three female participants you have been matched with in advance!
In spring 2021, Arbitration Lunch Match successfully took place in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Munich, Vienna and London. For its next round, we have added even more cities to that list - making Arbitration Lunch Match a truly international event!
Lunches in Hong Kong will take place between 8 and 12 November 2021 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm Hong Kong time.
Please register through the following button by 24 October 2021:
You will receive all the relevant details about your lunch match after registration has closed.
Please feel free to forward this email to any female colleagues in the arbitration field, who will be in Hong Kong during 8 -12 November 2021.
We are looking forward to it already.
With best wishes,
Gillian and Elizabeth
How lovely to be meeting with Winnie Tam SBS SC JP (DVC), Lillian L. (Quinn Emanuel), Amy Wen Wei (CMS), Fanghan Chen (HKIAC), Anne Wang (ICC) over Chinese dim sum on a Tuesday afternoon - catching up on interesting topics from arbitrator appointments, contingency fees, war stories to book clubs and hikes.

Further, we are organising an ALM hike this Saturday- please pm me if interested.
