This neglected 1900s attached carriage house in the Harvard-Belmont District of Capitol Hill was transformed into a space built to serve a variety of functional needs.
The lower-level carriage garage was reimagined as a dedicated gym with new windows, doors, cabinetry, and paint, providing a bright and energizing exercise studio with stunning views.
This versatile space accommodates multiple functions while preserving the historical character and charm of the original design. Upstairs, a once-dilapidated storage room and closet were transformed into a cozy and inviting guest suite with an attached bathroom.
By merging the existing closet and water closet, we created a modern wet room featuring a walk-in shower, enhancing both usability and comfort.
Thoughtful details, such as full wall tiling, a compact sink, and an efficient shower layout, maximize the bathroom’s functionality without compromising style.
Throughout the renovation, the historic charm of the carriage house was preserved. The original stairs were refinished, and the existing carriage doors were restored, blending old-world character with contemporary utility.
This transformation revitalized a long-neglected structure, aligning perfectly with the client’s goals of reclaiming and repurposing the space. The result is a seamless integration of functionality, craftsmanship, and respect for the home's heritage, creating a gym and guest suite that feel both timeless and tailored.
