In this early 1900s home, a small, awkward niche off the entry was transformed into a one-of-a-kind "Book Nook." A multifunctional space that serves as a cozy retreat for reading and relaxation, and doubles as a guest sleeping nook.
The homeowner envisioned something bold and personal, yet deeply respectful of the home's character and age. To bring this vision to life, the space was fully gutted to correct structural and electrical issues. New wiring was installed for undercabinet lighting, dimmable wall sconces, and a ceiling fixture, each on individual switches.
The final result features a custom-built daybed designed to accommodate an existing mattress, with deep storage drawers below for bedding and blankets. Integrated bookcases flank the space, and full-height millwork paneling brings traditional wainscoting detail from floor to ceiling.
The original entry casing was carefully repaired and replicated to maintain architectural continuity.
The bold, vintage-inspired wallpaper surrounding the nook adds energy, beautifully framing the deep colored cabinetry. This remodel exemplifies creative small-space planning while honoring a home's historic character.
