This 1950s two-bedroom, one-bath rambler was in need of a major renovation. To preserve the original structure, a new attached structure was added.
Designed by Ronda Lane, the result was a 5,200-square-foot, three-story modern farmhouse addition, converting the original 1,700-square-foot house to a home office and storage space.
Connecting to the existing structure included a breezeway built in place of the existing deck. Flanking chimneys conceal exhaust for multiple gas fireplaces, water heaters, plumbing vents and bath fans.
Structural and faux beams create a symmetrical, coffered grid ceiling in the living room over wide plank white oak engineered flooring.
Professional appliances and custom two-tone cabinetry define a gourmet kitchen featuring sintered stone and granite countertops.
A cornerless folding window system allows seating for up to eight under a covered wrap-around porch, with composite decking and an integrated octagonal gazebo.
A three-stop elevator wrapped by a gracious stairwell aids access to the top floors, including four rooftop decks with private access from two suites and a top-floor game room.
The primary suite features a three-sided fireplace, heated soaking tub, large barrier-free shower, dual faucet vanity and covered deck.
The combined structure is a welcome addition to a community rich in farming heritage. It allows its occupants and guests barrier-free access throughout and offers a uniquely sophisticated architectural design that honors turn-of-the-century charm.
