The objective of this project was to reimagine the first level of a 2003 home, transforming a dark and segmented layout into a bright, welcoming, and highly functional space tailored for both daily living and entertaining.
The home’s challenges included narrow walkways and poor circulation due to a closed-off floor plan, as well as outdated lighting and a lack of natural brightness. There was an underutilized front living room with little purpose and dated Y2K-era finishes that lacked warmth or personality.
The dividing wall between the kitchen and dining area was removed to open the space and convert the front living room into a light-filled home office.
Slider doors align with a newly installed window for visual harmony and improved garden views.
Lighting enhancements were made by replacing all original can lights with layered lighting, including a statement chandelier in the dining room, golden globe pendants above the island, and sconces flanking the handmade hood surround.
A large window above the sink now floods the kitchen with natural light. The cabinetry’s tones provide a striking but neutral backdrop for the furniture.
The reeded glass cabinetry echoes the fine grain of the wood and subtly reflects light. All the floors were refinished and stained to unify the space with warmth and continuity.
This renovation turned a dim, dated interior into a vibrant, airy home. The design celebrates practicality and charm, reflecting the client’s vision for a space where family and friends can gather and grow.
