Nestled in Redmond, this 40-year-old home needed thoughtful updates to better serve its family of four. Frequent hosts of large gatherings and family from out of town, a private guest suite became a priority.
An awkward attic area connecting the bonus room and guest rooms had to be creatively reconfigured to make room for a new hallway and bathroom. The original structure only allowed for a narrow passage with low headroom, making code-compliant hallway clearance a challenge.
By converting traditional stick-framed rafters into attic trusses, the unusable attic space was transformed into a seamless extension of the home. Structural constraints required precise framing and careful engineering to work within a tight footprint.
The new addition features custom walnut cabinetry, a quartz countertop, and stainless-steel accents, all chosen for their durability and ability to complement the existing home. A skylight was added to enhance natural light, and an LED mirror brought polish to the space.
A custom-built reading nook turned a tight corner into a cozy retreat.
Now, guests enjoy a private, comfortable suite, and the homeowners have a space that supports both daily life and hospitality. What was once awkward and unused is now a favorite part of the home.
