This beautiful shawl, knitted sideways, was created to enhance the natural beauty of single breed undyed wools found on the Smeaton Eastate Farm, in East Lothian, Scotland.
The undyed, natural colours of Ryeland and Hebridean sheep wools flow gently side by side and in harmony, without ever competing against one another.
Smeaton Shawl is a very relaxing project to knit, with a simple lace motif and Garter St sections, and uses only 1 skein of Smeaton Farm Ryeland 4ply (100% Ryeland - 290m / 317yds per 100g) and 1 skein of Smeaton Farm Hebridean 4ply (100% Hebridean - 300m / 328yds per 100g) and measures approximately 216 cm / 85” at widest point x 68 cm / 263/4 “ deep after blocking.
