The beautiful textured lines of this hat were inspired by the celtic mythology theme that was behind the creation of this stunning, light-reflecting blue yarn, "Beira".
In Celtic Mythology, the Cailleach is the goddess who created the Scottish mountains and lochs with her staff of power. The Cailleach Hat was therefore designed to illustrate the growing mountains and the flowing waters that gave birth to the landscape of Scotland.
This beautiful, soft and cosy hat is knitted in the round from the bottom up, and only uses cleverly placed twisted stitches (no cables!) to achieve a lovely textured and decorative effect.
The pattern includes both written and charted instructions for convenience, as well as sizing options.
The hat meaures approximately 20" circumference x 8" deep, using approximately 65g of Stewart Yarns Pitter Patter DK (85% SW Merino, 15% Nylon) in "Beira". Please note that the yarn is by nature very stretchy, and the ribbed brim adds to the elasticity of the hat, which fits up to 24" very easily.
