The Wayside Power Converter is a power supply used to power the Transpod large demonstrator which requires a constant 15KW supply. I designed and constructed a larger converter which supplies 200V at a maximum of 96A. This new power supply is required to operate both levitation and thrust for the large demonstrator. Key Aspects:
6 120V AC inputs or 3 240V AC inputs
Sperate charging circuit utilizing COTEK power supply
6 transformers converting 120V AC into 200V which then is rectified into 200V DC
‘smoothing’ capacitor component which stabilizes the voltage at 200V and is pre-charged using the additional power supply
Simple 120-240V switches to select input voltage
Various breakers and contactors used to ensure safety and remote control functionality
