One of my major projects while working for Nidec Mobility was increasing the feedback rate from accelerometers physically connected to haptic sensors. Both were connected via I2C protocol to a Raspberry Pi4 and esp32 in series.
Where I Started:
The LSM6dos accelerometer feedback rate was fixed at 300Hz despite being manually changed to 6kHz
Started with an outdated GUI written for windows OS which needed to be updated to PyQt5 and modified for Raspbian OS
Where I Improved:
Picture 1 shows the original 300Hz data capture rate while picture 2 displays my improved 3kHz
I streamlined my written code with a better library, increasing the data rate to 800Hz
I then modified parameters in the Raspbian OS txt script to overclock I2C and processing power, resulting in a data rate of 3kHz seen in the 2nd picture
The final program was able to correctly display the waveform with a high level of precision and made the application optimal for haptic sensing
This app would be directly used with investors and during conventions to demonstrate the functionality of automotive control switches
Having this data available would also help them improve haptic vibration feedback, created a more optimal user interface experience
