Early Career Academics

In its strategic focus towards becoming a leading research university in Africa, Stellenbosch University (SU) is invested in developing early career researchers who drive impactful research in South Africa, the continent, and the rest of the world. We are passionate about our early career researchers as they are the future research leaders of tomorrow.

The Division for Research Development (DRD) is driving this campaign aimed at highlighting the work of our early career researchers who are part of the Early Career Academic Development (ECAD) programme. Through this campaign, we aim to create visibility for our early career researchers, and highlight innovative research done at SU.

About the ECAD programme:

The ECAD programme is offered by the DRD. This programme includes pairing an academic who is in the early stages of their academic career with a carefully selected mentor who is not their line-manager and who can be in a different department, to mentor them. In addition to making provision for career development, this programme provides access to supervision training, research start-up funding and other developmental opportunities. There are currently over 100 mentees on the ECAD programme.
