on-playa events
Want to host an event, activity, or workshop at camp? It's super easy, and your event can even count towards your on-playa work commitment.
We have a variety of theme camps for you to make magic in. Check them out here: Interactivity & Frontage. Overwhelmed by choice and looking for a place to start?
Are there any rules? (For 2023)
We believe in Radical Self-Expression, so the rules are pretty simple:
Clear the event with the space's lead contact
This is the person listed as the lead contact of a space on our Interactivity & Frontage page. You need to make sure they're okay with what you're doing. They're also in charge of making sure events aren't double-booked, so if you're planning a scheduled event, use the self-scheduler to add your event to the calendar and do not change any other events already posted.Check IDs if you're serving alcohol
If the village gets ticketed for serving minors, you'll be responsible for paying the $1000 fine.Only professionals can hold massage events or workshops
Don't give massages as part of our public interactivity unless you have professional massage therapy qualifications. You're responsible for your own event
You're responsible for publicizing, setting up, and running your event. You're responsible for your own supplies, and you have to clean up after yourself. Enjoy the space, but leave no trace!
Otherwise... it's all up to you! Share what you're passionate about. Be as weird as you want. This is Burning Man!
We have two public spaces to use.
Hiss&Purr Lounge: Ground-level event and lounge space for our village with lounge seating, bar, small stage, some lighting and some music/sound electronics to use if the electricity is available. Bring your own boombox and mic if you want to be sure you have that just in case it’s not working.
SkyDeck Outdoor Lounge: This is accessed via stairs and is on top of our containers. There is some lounge seating and currently no sound system expected to be available. There will be a sky and if you are lucky, a sunset or sunrise.
Some general things to know:
We use a self-scheduler Google sheet that you fill out to book yourself into the spaces. Do not move or remove another previously booked event. When filling it out, if you have music, then put MUSIC in the slot when you provide information so that others know.
Loud music should only happen in one of the two spaces at any time so that we don’t have sound troubles. Look for MUSIC in the other space at the same time to see if someone already grabbed sound access. If not, then you can add your event and put MUSIC in the slot for your event to let others know.
You do not have to be a villager to access our space for your event. Other BRC residents can use them.
You are welcome to add your event to the Burning Man Who What Where Guide and list of events online. Use their website and follow the instructions. When doing so, please put Kermitopia as the name of the CAMP. Visit this link to add your event yourself. There are deadlines for the WWW Book so check them out.
You are welcome to post your event to your social media yourself. Places to consider: Facebook Burning Man 4:30 Sector Group, EBB&Glow Village Facebook Group are two good ones.
During your event, there may or may not be an open bar happening at the Hiss&Purr Lounge. We do not want anyone serving alcohol isz not checking ID's and you may also be asked to go through bartending training. Check with the Bar Lead before and you can find their email in the Who's Who at EBB&Glow found in this portal. This is to protect our good standing with Burning Man and their alcohol policies.
We practice Radical Expression and Civic Responsibility. We want all who use the space freely but also not be a dick in our village. If you are, we’ll let you know and ask you to leave as well as not allow you to use the spaces in the future.
We may post your event on our Events Board in the village. Please do not change the board unless you are taking your name off because you cannot keep your booking.
We reserve the right to cancel your booking for unforeseen circumstances and without notice. If you want to provide us your camp name, if we can, we’ll let you know. Use this Who’s Who List to find out who to contact to provide your information.
This is the link to the self-scheduler sheet and ultimately, our On Playa Events List for EBB&Glow Village.
How do I get my event listed?
YOU will be responsible for promoting your event.
If you want your event listed in the Burning Man events guide, you can submit it to Playa Events: Playa Events Submissions.
The WhatWhereWhen is the events guide book everyone gets at the Gate. If you submit your event early enough, it might wind up in the physical book. All submitted events will appear on the Time to Burn off-line events app that many burners will be using.
Having a listed event will (maybe) guarantee a crowd. You should make a good faith attempt to not flake and show up if you put an event in the book, because it's rude to have people travel across playa for nothing.
Rock Star Librarian Music Guide is a burner who makes up a music guide for the BRC. This is the website to submit an event. For 2023, the first deadline is August 6th for camps to register to get login credentials and submission deadline is August 10th, at 9pm Pacific, 2023. This is the link. The music guide should also end up in the Time to Burn app if it works like 2022. You can also get a digital format at the website.
You can choose to not list your event. It's also totally valid to hold an event spontaneously, because Burning Man.
How can I publicize my event?
Here are some other ways to get people to come to your event:
Before the burn, make a Facebook event in the EBB & Glow Facebook group so people in camp know about it.
Make flyers to tape up in the public portos with your event info and camp address, as long as you take them down afterwards because otherwise it's MOOP
Put up signs for your event around the village
The village will also have a white board so you can write your event on our public schedule.
can this count towards my work requirement?
Actually, yes!
If you want your event to count towards your on-playa work requirement, email (insert here) to get that counted.
