Health & Safety
Mayor Bridget Wylie, RN, will be in charge of village health and safety on playa.
What is consent?
Consent is a voluntary, enthusiastic, and clear agreement between two people engaging in an activity. It's one of the most important principles at Burning and also in real life, and at EBB & Glow we take it INCREDIBLY SERIOUSLY.
Consent means you have clearly communicated what you intend to do with another person, and they have given you permission to do it. Consent to do one thing does NOT mean you have consent to do something else.
When you go to Burning Man for the first time, it might seem like a place where anything goes, where everyone has absolute freedom to do anything they want. It's important to realize that personal boundaries still exist and are JUST as important on playa as they are in the default world.
Regardless of whether an activity is sexual or not, you need to absolutely make sure that you have clear and enthusiastic consent whenever you do anything that involves other people at Burning Man
Here are some resources so you can learn more:
Burning Man Survival Guide: Consent and Sexual Misconduct
Sexual misconduct on playa
If you are sexually assaulted or see someone being sexually assaulted, gather as much information (where are you/find a landmark, time of day, persons involved) and FIND LAW ENFORCEMENT. If you are NOT comfortable going to a LEO, find a RANGER and they will assist (all while keeping track of said "victim" so they can get the help they need).
To reach CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) on playa, go to the Survivor Advocacy Center behind the medical station at 5:15 & Esplanade, find a Black Rock Ranger (or any staff member with a radio), or walk in to one of the ESD medical stations (locations above) and let them know you want to report a sexual assault, domestic violence, or mental health issue.
Emergency Services (EMT and LEO) will be at 7:30 & H.
Rangers station locations:
Ranger HQ on Esplanade and 5:45
3:00 & C
9:00 & C
The Man
The Temple
The Town of Gerlach
If you ever have to enact the steps above, please let a Mayor know, if possible/necessary. I will always do my best to be there and help with these situations. However, we are all in this together! Recognize we all have different boundaries in life, many are new to playa and the playa culture, so just be gentle and understanding. But also, know you are just as important as your gift, so IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. If you DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, STOP, COMMUNICATE, RESET OR END. And also note, Consent can CHANGE or be WITHDRAWN at any time, either by yourself or the other participant(s).
With that, I think you'll all get the jist of what Playa Consent Culture is, what is expected of us, and how to respectfully and consensually offer our Spa services to the folks of the Playa. I am always here for discussions, clarification, and further tools and resources on this topic.
Village COVID POLICY
One of the 10 principles for Burning Man is Communal Responsibility. It is our hope that all members of our Village will take personal responsibility and keep themselves and others healthy during the burn. To help prevent the spread of COVID the following guidelines will apply to everyone camping in our Village:
We ask that everyone take a rapid antigen test before leaving home, regardless of vaccination status or whether you have symptoms or not. This will provide you with a base line, that you were negative when you left.
Please, consider bringing a few kits of antigen tests in case you start to feel unwell when you are on Playa. (The village will have tests in case you forget or run out).
If you start to feel unwell, with symptoms that could be COVID, please test as soon as possible.
If you test positive while on Playa:
If you begin to have symptoms that may be COVID, please put on a mask and take an antigen test. Remember that antigen tests are activated by your viral load. If you test too early you may get a false negative. If your symptoms persist, test again the next day.
If you test positive, please notify Bridget Wylie (Tetris) as soon as possible. She will help clarify the next steps.
We will ask that you to not get within 6 feet from others while you are symptomatic. If you leave your personal space, please wear an N95 mask. (The Village will have some available if you do not bring any or run out).
The Village will have an extra tent available, so that either you or you tent mates can be separated while you are symptomatic.
Please, eat separately from others. While you are eating you will not have a mask on so please eat at a table alone, or bring your food back to your tent.
When your symptoms have improved we ask that you continue to wear a mask when around others. At this point, if you wish to do activities on your own, like ride around looking at art, you can do so, but please wear a mask and limit all contact with others.
On Day 5 after your positive test, repeat your antigen test to see if you are negative, and if you are, you may rejoin the Village activities. It is recommended that you wear a mask around others for a total of 10 days.
In the event that you begin to feel very ill, please make your way to the Burning Man Medical Tent (located at 5:15 & Esplanade). If you do not feel well enough to make the trip, ask someone in the village to get you help.
MEDICAL emergency form
You will receive a Medical Emergency Form with your Pre-Playa Printable PDF (when it comes out in August). You can print it and fill out and give it to Mayor Bridget when you get on playa.
The form will contain:
Medical information
Prescription information

Insurance information
Please give the completed form to Bridget Wylie, RN when you arrive on playa so we can have this information on hand in case of medical emergency. She will keep it in a secure location.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to Bridget (Bridgetwylie@gmail.com).
