The Telehealth Course was provided through the WNE Occupational Therapy Department. It ran for the first 4 weeks of the DEx project and was presented in a hybrid seminar and discussion format, with two seminars per week and one discussion with Dr. Ellen Rainville, the course instructor Dr. Debra Latour, and this WNE DEx team. A review of current evidence, a series of guided investigations, and case studies were examined. It was provided as a pass-fail mini-course, designed to be similar to a professional continuing education seminar, and is embedded in the doctoral experiential course series.
This course focuses on skills for the telehealth delivery of occupational therapy services in the healthcare marketplace. Students are introduced to a range of current and ongoing issues and developments in telehealth and remote delivery of occupational therapy services, including new and emerging regulations, processes, and their impact on our clients’ health/wellness and participation in occupation/life roles. The goal of this course is to enable students to understand the role occupational therapists can take as part of an interprofessional team using telehealth as a responsible service delivery option in the changing health care environment.
