She generously shares dozens of her lists as Canva templates you can copy and modify to fit your collection. Because we're #BetterTogether, I figured I should share the Book Menus I've created . Literally as soon as I put mine out in the library, students were using them to find books they might want to read.Â
I have my Book Menus on display in a "desktop reference organizer" available from online retailers and office supply stores. These also come in wall-mountable versions, if you have space on your walls or the ends of your bookcases.
(Don't be surprised when looking at my templates to see many of my lists are versions of Melissa's!)
I build my lists around books I have physical copies of, as students ask for those over digital copies almost every time. But I know some students benefit from having both physical and digital copies, so I mark those titles with a MackinVIA icon to let students know that physical book also has a digital version available if they want to access it.Â
If you click any of the images, titles, or links, you'll get your own copy of the item in Canva. I find them easy to modify using the following process:Â
I run two browser windows. In one, I have the Canva template. In the other, I look up titles I want to change or include in GoodReads. I drag the cover image from GoodReads into Canva's "Uploads" section. Then I can drag the cover image onto the Book Menu - if I drag carefully, the cover image will replace an existing cover, leaving the rest of the page untouched. Then I can edit the title and author, and add an icon for titles that also have digital copies.Â
