The basic colors of your design are determined by the base color of your Yore!
Yorebeasts have six genes on four loci which control their base color.Â
The darkness/lightness of a base are determined by the incomplete dominant OO and SS genes, which share a locus! OS, both genes together, would result in a grey Yore.Â
The overall hue of a base is determined by two genes: Rr and Bb, each of which have their own locus. Rr adds warm hues, while Bb adds cool hues! Each have an incomplete dominant form and a recessive hidden form. Rr/Bb would result in a purple tone, while rr/bb would add no hue to the Yore.
The dilution or saturation of a base is controlled by the DD and vv genes, which share a locus. The DD gene is dominant, and creates more desaturated, natural bases, while vv is recessive and creates a more saturated, jewel-toned base when homozygous. In passing during a breeding, vv has a chance to mutate back to a heterozygous Dv!
These genes may be homozygous, or hom, having two identical copies of their gene (OO, RR, bb, and DD would all be hom genes), or heterozygous, or het, showing two different copies of their gene (OS, Rr, Bb, and Dv are all het)! This difference may change how genes expressÂ
The base color of your Yore should generally be color picked directly from the geno's assigned base color's slider, but you may desaturate your chosen base up to 50%- however, they may not be pure white or pure black, nor fully grey unless your base is Quartz, Basalt, or Obsidian.Â
Your marking colors will generally be picked from any color present on the base slider, but there are some allowed color changes to give you more options! See Marking Colors for more information.
DD Bases are desaturated tones, resulting in slightly dilute, naturalistic colors which range into off-whites, greys, and near blacks.Â
Quartz, Basalt, and Obsidian are the greyscale bases, featuring only the black and white genes, and homozygous recessive hue genes.Â
Clay and Slate mainly feature the RR/Rr or BB/Bb genes respectively, with the other in its hom recessive form. This results in a desaturated warm or cool base, with little influence from the other.Â
Ochre and Jasper feature one homozygous dominant hue gene, and one heterozygous hue gene. Ochre is RR/Bb, with the cool gene pulling greens into its orange tones, while Jasper is Rr/BB, with the warm gene pulling greens into its teal tones.Â
Breccia shows the full effect of incompletely dominant hue genes- RR/BB and Rr/Bb result in a fairly even mix of warm and cool genes, showing a purplish base color. Notably, a hom white or black gene will pull Breccia's het form (Rr/Bb) into one of the more basic colors- a hom white gene on het Breccia (SS/Rr/Bb) will result in Clay, while a hom black gene (OO/Rr/Bb) will result in Slate.
vv Bases are saturated tones, showing colorful bases which range into almost unnaturally bright shades.Â
Each base has a vibrant counterpart!
Quartz becomes Morganite, Basalt becomes Emerald, and Obsidian becomes Garnet.
Clay becomes Sunstone, Slate becomes Azurite, Ochre becomes Amber, and Jasper becomes Jade.Â
Breccia becomes Amethyst, and the hom white and black gene interaction can still turn Amethyst's het hue genes into Sunstone or Azurite!
