I asked Eldia what the carvings outside the gate mean.
It took me a while to recover from this supposed big father-son reunion event, but I eventually remembered the reason why I explored this place.
I came here to find out why there are letters and characters of my previous world carved on the murals in the front gate.

【“Very well, I shall tell you”】

Eldia tends to act prideful, but I notice he becomes lively when given the opportunity to talk.
…… I swear this benevolent Dragon King is really just itching to have a conversation with someone.
And as if he heard my thoughts, Eldia looks at me, which causes me to shake my head and look away, trying to think of something else.

T-These ruins sure are strange, I’m curious about its carvings.
Eldia-san looks so strong, he’s so cool, etc. etc. etc.

【“……Hmm”】

Eldia huffs a discomforting snort and resumes talking.
…… That was close, way too close, I need to be careful that none of my unnecessary thoughts are being leaked without me noticing.

【“When I first came to this place, it was already abandoned. But, the Demon King seemed to like it here, so we would occasionally fly to this island……”】

And thus, my supposed father, Dragon King Eldia, began his story, which he started by talking about the island first.
So, this island and these ruins were apparently the Demon King’s favorite places and they’d often visit here.

Then, Eldia moves his large body aside and reveals the wall behind him.
There’s a large mural engraved with many carvings, including Japanese characters and some alphabet.
And, just like in the one on the front gate, all these word structures don’t make sense, and there’s even a few characters, like “ra” (ら) and “ru” (る), that look like they’re mixed together.
…… Maybe it could just be a different language altogether?
No, that can’t be. Other than the mixed characters, everything else is the same……

The mural is just too abstract for me to understand.
Besides the letters, there’s also a giant eyeball-like drawing with six people lined up under it.
It doesn’t look like a very detailed painting, but more like a deformed one. It was as if it only took 10 brushes per person.
The eyeball painting, on the other hand, is basically just circles drawn over each other.

Uhm…… Eldia-san, what’s all this about……?

So, it’s like a legend or a myth about this world.
After hearing that story, the picture kind of makes sense now, especially since, even though they’re all bipedal, there’s one with a wolf head, a few who have wings, and another one whose head looks like a skeleton from the neck up.

This is all too much for me.
…… Wait a second, this has nothing to do with my past life, is there?
I try my best to stay focused on Eldia’s story time so he doesn’t find out I’ve lost my interest.

…… Still, a magi, huh.
I’ve heard of demi-humans (亜人 ajin), but not magi (魔人 majin).
Also, I find the distinction between monsters and magical beasts to be surprising.

【“They are but an ancient race. Other than the heavenly realm and the underworld where the angels and demons live, the four realms have intertwined together in the real world, causing the boundary between humans and magi, and monsters and magical beasts to disappear, and only humans and monsters are left. Ah…… the existence of evolution……

My sudden interruption must’ve annoyed Eldia since he’s looking at me with enviable disdain.
M-My apologies……

I look away from Eldia and start thinking.
…… Yes, I remember I used to wonder about why only monsters can evolve.
In this world that is seemingly being run by a system, levels exist, and being able to evolve or not can greatly annul the significance of that level.
Especially now that I’ve learned a little about the background behind its origin, I’m starting to see that it’s more of a feature that was added in out of nowhere.

There are no ordinary animals in this world.
Everything is either a human or a monster.
Then, humans having skills and a status are the only things they have in common with monsters, but they lack evolution and a rank.

Honestly, hearing about this world’s mythology is only making me more convinced that Eldia’s story was just a cheap reason by some god to add a justification behind the unfairness of this world.
…… And to top it off, it’s all too hypothetical to understand.
Meanwhile, Partner is just nodding off to cloudsville.

Eldia was looking at Partner the whole time I was thinking to myself, so I poke her neck gently with the tip of my claw.
Hey, wake up. Professor Eldia’s history class is still underway.

Partner gives me an annoyed look before turning to face Eldia.

【“So who did Demon King hear dat story from?”】

P-Pa-Partner is asking a question!
I watch curiously as to how Eldia responds.
To my surprise, Eldia just makes a wide grin and laughs.

【“A similar myth has been shared among humans for centuries. However, my lord and master, the Demon King…… heard that story from the will of the world itself”】

F-From God’s Voice……?!
Seeing my surprised reaction, Eldia humorously snorts in satisfaction.

【“But, there is more. We monsters are too different from humans in more than just our appearance and way of thinking, to the point that we are simply incompatible with one another. The one thing we do recognize is the danger that the other side possesses. But, since the four worlds are connected, we cannot separate from each other. And so, humans would exterminate the monsters. And, monsters would devastate the humans. However, many monsters do not band together. We may possess tremendous power individually, but we have lost the power of numbers”】

…… I know that feeling.
The difference in appearance and nature that we have just leaves a wide gap, and continues to grow wider.
That very difference is what’s made me suffer so much all this time, even though I’m supposed to have that same line of thinking.

【“But, that is not the end of the story. In order to keep Forlen’s seal intact, the Great Sages’ power would continue to reside unto the next person for many years to come. Those who gain the sage’s powers are able to control a vast number of inferior monsters at will. As such, the constant conflict sparked upon the ones who wield their powers brought forth a large-scale war. And, the one who wielded the power of the Sage that represents the monsters was my master, the Demon King himself. From the moment he was born, the Demon King was destined to rid the world of humans by the hands of fate”】

Partner has been having trouble keeping up, but I attentively paid attention to everything Eldia has shared with us.
I see now…… so those are the sacred skills.

【The power to govern the human world as you please. Its original powers have been lost over time, but it has a big impact on future evolutions.】

That skill was transferred to me after I beat the Hero for some reason.
There is a slight gap in-between explanations of the skill. But, now that I know a little more about its background, I’m starting to see the big picture.

Partner unusually starts worrying for me, evidenced by how she’s looking at me with worry.
Eldia also starts being cautious around me and quickly adjusts his posture.

【“You…… what are you angry for”】

The entire myth is just too abstract for anyone to know what it’s trying to imply on the surface alone.
But, I do understand one thing.
The individual who is playing the role of〖God’s Voice〗is someone related to do the Evil God, Forlen, or the the Six Great Sages in the myth.
No, in fact, the whole myth and war between the Demon King and some Hero…… were nothing more than a farce planned by God’s Voice.

And without a doubt, the world is about to get caught in all of it again.
