Teacher Attendance Expectations
The teacher duty day begins at 7:55am.
Teachers are expected to be present and punctual unless otherwise noted in SmartFind Express.
A conference will be held with an administrator after 5 absences for personal or family illness.
Teachers are expected to leave detailed Substitute Plans in the event of a planned absence.
Teachers are expected to have 3 Emergency Plans ready at all times.
Teachers should monitor available leave on pay stubs and/or Employee Self-Service.
Document absence in SmartFind Express.
Alert your department chair, grade level administrator, content administrator, and Ms.Clark-Robinson by email by 6:30 AM.
Contact your department chair to let them know where updated substitute plans can be found.
Go to SmartFind Express.
Sign In
Username is your Employee ID without the zeros.
Password is teacher-created.
Select 'Create Absence' from the upper blue taskbar.
Use the drop downs to complete the attendance form.
Verify that all of the information is correct and click 'Create Absence'.
Send absence confirmation email to department chair, grade level administrator and Ms.Clark-Robinson.
Personal Illness - Use when you are sick or have a medical appointment. 3 or more consecutive personal illness days require a doctor's note to be submitted to Ms. Pegues.
Family Illness - Use when an immediate member of your family is sick. Teachers are given 3 family illness days per year.
Urgent Business - Use when you are taking a pre-approved absence. The DPMMS Urgent Business Request Form must be emailed to Mr. Hughes and Ms. Pegues at least one week in advance. Approval must be requested through the principal. Teachers are given 3 urgent business days per year.
Death in Family - Use when there has been a death in your immediate family. Documentation (obituary) may be required.
Legal Summons - Use when you have been assigned jury duty or some other court-ordered service. Documentation is required.
Other Board Business - Use when you are attending a BCPS professional development, workshop, or event during normal school hours.
