2015년의 개인전을 준비하면서 작업이 정체되는 느낌을 받았다. 앞으로 한 걸음도 나갈 수 없는 무력감을 느꼈다. 큰 화폭 앞에서 주님의 십자가의 길을 묵상하고 하나씩 하나씩 퍼즐을 채우 듯 맞추어 나가는 일이 쉽지만은 않았다.

빌라도의 법정에서 부터 골고다의 언덕까지 그 숱한 수모와 멸시를 받아가며 주님은 무엇을 생각하셨을까? 육체를 가진 인간으로서 고통은 얼마나 크셨을까? 자신의 사망으로 인류가 구원 받으리란 사실은 확신하셨을까? 아버지 하나님의 그 크신 사랑의 마음을 짐작은 하셨을까? 신앙적인 고뇌를 작품으로 표현하기 위해 무엇을 하여야 하는가? 나의 기존의 작품의 틀에서 변하여야 할 것은 무엇인가? 그것이 과연 신앙의 면모를 띤 작품으로 표출될 것인가? 예수님의고난을 단지 처절하고 애통스런 마음으로만 바라 볼 것인가? 예수님의 수난은 인류를 위한 하나님의 기쁨의 메세지가 아닌가? 예수님의 수난은 멸시와 고통을 넘어선 구원의 기쁨을 여는 위대한 하나님의 사역이라면 예수님의 고난에 찬 길이 바로 인류에게 소망과 기쁨을 주는 길이며 이 길은 생명의 에너지로 가득찬 세상으로 우리를 안내해 주는 길인 것이다.

성경에 나타나는 지역적 공간에는 서로 다른 역사적인 흔적이 다양하게 기록되어 있다. 나는 그 속에서 인간세상에 전해지는 신의 위대한 멧세지를 본다. 신은 우리에게 인물을 통하여, 상황을 통하여, 공간을 통하여 그의 섭리를 보여준다. 이를 나의 작은 능력으로 표현하고자 노력한다. 작가에게 작업이 모든 것이듯 나에게 작업은 주님께 드리는 간절한 기도이다.
