During the fourth and final week of the program, we shifted our focus to aerospace engineering, exploring the fundamental principles of aerodynamics, propulsion, and flight mechanics. We began by designing and prototyping foam gliders and experimenting with multiple paper airplane variations to study lift, drag, and flight stability. We then built and launched water bottle rockets to gain hands-on experience with pressurized propulsion systems. The main capstone focus of the week, however, was designing, assembling, and launching a high-performance model rocket, which required us to carefully calculate center of gravity and center of mass to ensure a stable, successful flight and recovery. We also had to build/design a functioning parachute that could keep the rocket in shape upon its descent.
