What is a Arduino Following Robot?
The Arduino robot is made using color sensors and environmental detection sensors to follow a straight line below it in order to arrive at a destination. This is made to emulate the real world situation of path following where a robot may need to find it's way to a certain place with no other instruction.
Step 1: Build Robot
To start, the robot needed to be built. We built our following vehicle with a plastic base, allowing for the circuit board to be placed on top of it. Three color sensors were added at the bottom to detect its track, and two antenna-sensors were added in order to see if it hit a wall or obstacle. All of this led to a sturdy and safe base that allowed the robot to efficiently move.
Step 2: Calibrate/Code
The next step was to code the robot and sensors in order for the robot to achieve its goal. We coded it to constantly follow a black line on the ground, only changing course if an antenna was touched. We vibe-coded the robot to achieve these tasks and implemented the code into the robot to achieve it.
Step 3: Testing
We tested this robot through a twisty black track to see if it would follow. Because the goal was for the robot to easily follow the predetermined path, having sharp turns was essential to see it's adaptability. The result was the robot able to follow the path managing the sharp turns, albeit with some difficulty.
