What is a VexIQ Mixing Robot?
The mixing robot is made to create a simple polymer from raw ingredients- fully incorporating and mixing said ingredients by itself. This is meant to simulate automation in industries, with the polymers being created without any human intervention.
Step 1: Build Robot
The first and foremost step needed to do was to build the robot. This was done through the use of many separate, joinable pieces, similar to legos. The robot went through many iterations before settling on a design where 2 cups would pour ingredients into a different cup before finally mixing with other parts. After this base was made, two motors were added to spin gears in order to get the robot working.
Step 2: Calibrate/Code
The next step was to code the robot and sensors in order for the robot to achieve its goal. This was done with Python code that turns the cups to a specific degree at a certain time before mixing the ingredients after.
Step 3: Testing
The robot was tested by adding glue and a borax solution to the input cups which were then simultaniously poured into the output cup. It would then be mixed, creating a slime. This test was made to simulate the creation of a polymer of similar ingredients and ended up working after much trials.
