Introduction to statistical Quality control, scientific acceptance sampling; Description of pattern of variation, Graphical Representation of a frequency distribution; Frequency curve and normal curve, Relation to the average and standard deviation, Relation between sigma and Range; Problems related to basic statistical concept, Measures of central tendency: Mean, Median and mode; Control charts for variables: X-bar chart, R- chart; Some fundamental theory of probability, Permutations and combinations; Binomial as a probability distribution; Poisson law as a probability distribution; Normal distribution; Control charts for Fraction Rejected: Control limits for the p-chart; Control chart for Non- conformities: application of c chart; Organizing for Quality and Quality Control Circle: Quality control function, Quality Circles, Merits of Quality circle ; ISO 9000: Meaning of Quality, Meaning of Total Quality ,Birth of ISO 9000 series, Elements of ISO 9000; Total Quality Management: Understanding TQM, Elements of TQM, Parameters involved in TQM, Benefits of TQM; Implementing TQM, Deming 14 points, Effect of TQM on an organization, general responsibilities to the society, group/individual work and work placements in engineering program.
