Course Name: BASIC THERMODYNAMICS

P. MAT 147. The course deals with thermodynamics from both classical and statistical point of view. Topics include work, heat, entropy, thermodynamic properties, and equations of state. Also included are first and second law analysis of closed systems, control volumes and thermodynamic cycles; reversibility. Refrigeration and air conditioning. Mixtures of gases and vapors; psychometrics; real gases; fuels and combustion.

Course Outcomes (COs):

1. Define and explain thermodynamic properties of pure substances, the first and second law of thermodynamics with its application in thermodynamic system.

2. Derive mass, energy and entropy balance equation for closed and open systems unsteady-flow processes

3. Solve engineering problems related to thermodynamic properties of ideal gases, steam and refrigeration cycles
