Reflective practice has definitely played a big role in my growth. I remember how nervous I was when I first started, not really knowing what theory or approach to use when interacting with peers or students. Now, I feel much more confident connecting with others and recognizing that there’s no one-size-fits-all method when working with children. Every student is different, and I’ve learned how important it is to pivot depending on their needs.
I’m still working through challenges, especially when it comes to heavier topics like suicidal ideation and grief. But I truly want to keep learning and improving. I ask questions, do research, and take feedback seriously; it’s all part of helping me grow and become the best counselor I can be.
