Active learning protocols are generally task-oriented and ask participants to engage in individual or small group tasks to reinforce principles and apply the learning to their own circumstances. During the course of this Culturally Relevant Teaching PD, participants will be introduced to the protocols below. These protocols tend to take between 10 minutes to 30 minutes (on the part of the individual or small group).
This scorecard is a tool designed to help teachers determine the extent to which their schools’ English Language Arts curricula are (or are not) culturally responsive. Additionally, the process is meant to provoke thinking about how students should learn, what they should learn, and how curriculum can be transformed to engage students effectively.
