Parroting involves repeating what a speaker says, often with a slight delay, which allows the learner to process the information while actively engaging in speech. This technique is particularly beneficial for improving listening comprehension and memory retention. Research indicates a significant relationship between parroting ability and listening comprehension, suggesting that practicing this technique can enhance overall interpreting skills.

For this assignment, I had to practice parroting with two videos—one in Spanish, and another in English. Overall, I found parroting to be a helpful exercise because it improved my listening and reaction skills, as well as my short-term memory. However, I noticed that it didn’t really help me retain information in the long run.
One of the challenges I faced was having to record multiple times to get it right. I also used a tool called Loom to record both my screen and my parroting at the same time. At first, it was a bit complicated to use, and I had trouble making it work on all my devices. Because of this, I had to record the audio separately and put it together afterward.
Despite these challenges, the activity was a useful exercise, and I could see its benefits for language learning.
