Rognel Heights is a well-established, primarily residential neighborhood located in the Southwest District of Baltimore, Maryland. Often characterized by its solid brick architecture and abundant green space, it offers residents an urban-suburban feel just five miles from Downtown Baltimore. The streetscape is dominated by traditional row houses and brick duplexes, many of which were built between 1940 and 1969. Some frame houses pre-dating World War I can also be found. The neighborhood began its development in 1895. Rognel Heights is notable for its direct border with Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park to the north, which provides extensive trails for recreation. The neighborhood also contains several small, local public parks, including Rokeby Road Park and Flowerton Road Park.

Renovation Plans: The Seminole Avenue Section of Baltimore's Gwynns Falls Park provides the immediate neighborhood with important recreational resources while also acting as a gateway landscape for accessing and enjoying the larger park's acres of woodlands, meadows and wilderness and its miles of trails along the tributaries and main valley of this secluded urban waterway. Working with Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, we are designing site improvements to help this section of the park reach is fullest potential as gateway and recreational hub. The transformed landscape features a new nature-play playground with integral planted attractions, a new walking-running trail, wayfinding signage, a restored flexible playing field and a fitness station promoting community well-being.

The Southwestern District is comprised of communities such as Irvington, Edmondson Village, Allendale and Ten Hills. It is the home to the Gwynns Falls Trail and Leakin Park, which together comprise more than 1,000 acres —one of the larger urban wilderness preserves in the United States. The Southwestern District is also home to the historical 300-acre Loudon Park Cemetery, where Union and Confederate graves are located on opposite hills.
