Forest Park is a historic and predominantly residential neighborhood located in West Baltimore, Maryland. Originally developed in the early 20th century, largely around streetcar lines, it transitioned from an outlying collection of estates to a suburban-style community with a diverse range of housing, including Colonial Revivals, Dutch Colonial-style rowhouses, and duplexes. For a period, it served as a significant center for Baltimore's Jewish community, but by the 1970s, it had become a largely African American neighborhood, a demographic that largely persists today.
The neighborhood offers residents a mix of urban and suburban living, characterized by its tree-lined streets and proximity to green spaces like Hanlon Park and the larger Druid Hill Park, which houses the Maryland Zoo and the historic H.P. Rawlings Conservatory. While many homes are owner-occupied, the area has also seen larger historic residences converted into apartments and condos. Forest Park strives for a balance of tranquility and accessibility, with major highways and downtown Baltimore a short drive away, appealing to both retirees and families.
