1988
1988 saw several changes to the Ciera line as it awaited another major update for 1989. Euro style lamps were now standard on all models. The Previous GT coupe and sedan were renamed International Series (W45/W49) and broken out as a separate trim level rather than an option group in sales materials.
For the first time, Oldsmobile's sporty Ciera's had their own VIN identifier. They were now "S" in the 5th digit of the VIN.
One new feature was the available CF5 sliding sunroof with tinted glass and sun shade. Only sedan models could order this option.
All bench seat models now offered a storage armrest.
During the model year, Oldsmobile introduced the XC Special Edition. This featured bucket seats, console with floor shift, body extensions, painted alloy wheels, fog lamps, full instrumentation, and sport steering wheel.
