⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD!!⚠️
By Sophia Doshi
I remember watching the first episode of this show and thinking to myself, this show is going to be horrible.
I can't even express to you how wrong I was.
Season 1 was great. Season 2 was even better. Season 3 was the best, but it kind of went downhill from there. You know how there are cracks in a dam before it breaks, floods the surrounding area around it, and ruins the environment? That's pretty much the feeling of seasons 4-7. But we can ignore that for now. Let's dive into a character breakdown!
Clarke Griffin
I don't have much to say about her. She's definitely not my favorite character. Look, she's just your average dystopian female protagonist. She makes the hard decisions and then rips into other people about having to make these decisions, then apologizes to the people she rips into. Tell me I'm wrong. I dare you.
Bellamy Blake
The only thing that I don't like about Bellamy is that he tolerates Clarke's existence. Everything else about him is perfection. He is a tough yet caring warrior that looks to protect everyone he loves. He's the—arguably—most consistent character in the show, which is why he's one of my favorites.
Octavia Blake
A queen. She follows the innocent-and-sweet-girl-gone-bad-because-the-bad-guys-in-season-3-killed-her-boyfriend trope, and absolutely kills it (quite literally, her kill count in the show is approximately 1,180). She goes from the girl who was raised illegally—underneath the floorboards—in the Ark to being called Blodreina (pronounced Blood-rain-ah, which means Red Queen). She's my favorite character in the show, no contest.
Lexa
If you're a fan of The 100, Lexa should need no introduction. Yet if you're new here, not only are you getting major spoilers for the show, you can also wrap your head around how much I love Lexa. She is just under Octavia on my list of favorites, mainly because she loved Clarke (I'm not against their relationship at all, I just hate Clarke. Side note: Lexa would've looked so good with Octavia). Anyways, Lexa's a total badass and she trained since she was 2 to lead an army of warriors at just 12 years old. If anything screams badass, it's Lexa.
Lincoln
He deserved better. Lincoln was the kind of character that looked like he could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll (who could still kill you). He loved Octavia, and Octavia loved him. His death not only broke Octavia but also the whole 100 fandom (including yours truly). There is not a day that passes that I do not miss him.
“In peace, may you leave this shore. In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels, until our final journey to the ground. May we meet again."
John Murphy
People that hated on him throughout all 7 seasons got it wrong. I hated him throughout seasons 1 and 2, but he redeemed himself in my eyes during season 3. Sure, it took my 3 seasons, but I finally realized that he was just looking out for himself. However, I hate his girlfriend, Emori. I loved her at first, but then she kept lying and kept betraying people, which caused my consecutive dislike for her.
Finn Collins
Finn is chill and whatever, he was killed by Clarke(no surprises there), but he actually was in love with Clarke(kind of a surprise there), even though Raven loved him(oops). He was like the tape between the Yankees poster and my wall that wasn't sticky enough to keep the poster on the wall. RIP.
Raven Reyes
I don't know why, but when she wasn't being helpful, she was just wasting radiation-tainted-oxygen. She also needs a better taste in men; Finn had too much of a babyface.
In the end, The 100 is just your slightly-better-than-average dystopian show that appeals to the masses of teenagers looking for a form of escapism. It reached its audience quickly and effectively, and I personally don't have any problems with it. For those looking for a binge-worthy, edge-of-your-seat dystopian show, The 100 is perfect for you.
