⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD!!⚠️

I went to see DSMOM (I bet you can guess what the acronym represents) in the theatre on Saturday, two days after it was released. I was so excited, and I had extremely high hopes for the film. I don't want to say I was disappointed, but I was expecting more out of the movie. In particular, Marvel was hyping it up to be such a scary horror movie. Sure, it was darker than your average Marvel movie and there was more gore, but the only true 'horror' aspect of it was a couple of jump-scares. There weren't any really huge twists, so I found myself rather let down. Overall, I'd give the rating a 7/10.

For one, I'm glad Marvel finally gave Wanda (who, for the first time, calls herself the Scarlet Witch) the villain arc she deserved. The amount of trauma that has been forced onto her (Pietro Maximoff's death, Vision's death, the Westview situation, the loss of her two sons) could break anyone, and it definitely broke her. People had been rooting for her to go full-on evil, and I think the Marvel fans can take a collective sigh of relief now that the evil-Scarlet-Witch-era is over.
However, there are still some plot holes that I noticed. For example, where did the Scarlet Witch's fortress come out of?? She just had a bunch of mutants waiting there for her, which seemed to be really out-of-the-blue. And how did those carvings of the Darkhold get there? According to Marvel lore, the demon Chthon created the Darkhold, but apparently the Scarlet Witch carved its inscriptions into her fortress. Or maybe I completely misunderstood the movie, and everything I just stated and questioned is misguided. Whelp.
On a better note, I love how the writers decided to add in America Chavez's moms. I think that was a much-needed piece of her story, and definitely garnered a lot of sympathy for the character, especially from the LGBTQ+ community (which is a very big step for Marvel). However, it almost felt rushed in some sense; the addition of her moms felt very last-minute but it was still a nice touch.
Movie Ratings:
Gore: 7/10
Plot: 8/10
Characters: 9.5/10
Action: 10/10
Overall: 7/10
