Importance of Intramuros:
In 1951, the city of Intramuros, which includes Fort Santiago, was declared as a National Historical Landmark. The National Museum of the Philippines named the Intramuros fortifications, also known as the Fortifications of Manila, National Cultural Treasures due to their historic and cultural value. Intramuros is a prominent tourist spot in our hometown and plays an essential role in our country's history. The Walled City is the oldest district in the city. It was the seat of the Spanish government during their colonization of the Philippines. Intramuros was created by indigenous peoples and Chinese artisans, but it was exclusively intended for the clergy and the Spanish nobles. The indigenous were only allowed to enter if they agreed to work as servants.
