Lauren O'Connell '97

ARTIST STATEMENT

As a fourth-generation artist, Lauren O’Connell grew up surrounded by impressionist and modern abstract paintings, as well as figurative metal sculpture. Her urban landscape paintings combine these influences with the boldness of Pop art, creating a style that is unique and instantly recognizable.

Lauren was born and raised in Los Angeles. Her love for her hometown has been a major focus in recent years and has led her to create the Around LA series. Focusing on different landmarks around the city, she aims to capture the feel of a scene and create emotionally resonant pieces that draw the viewer in and trigger memories of standing in that very spot. Vibrant color and clean lines put a modern spin on familiar imagery. The result appeals to those looking for statement pieces, while its energy also appeals to the youngest patrons.

With degrees in art history and arts administration, Lauren has used her passion for art throughout her professional career as an art teacher, arts organization director, arts programs coordinator, museum educator and gallerist. Her paintings are included in private collections throughout the country.
