ARTIST STATEMENT
I'm an interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. I create portraits on wood utilizing a unique technique I developed that I have coined "open-flame pyrography." All of my artwork is created freehand, from life, with fire. I use blowtorches and flamethrowers as my paintbrushes to create lifelike portraits. I received MFAs in art and set design from CalArts and a BFA in studio art from USC.
What art classes did you take while at Crossroads? I took all art classes available to me during my time at Crossroads. My favorite teachers were Vernon Salyers and Pam Posey.
How did Crossroads help to shape or influence you as an artist? I've always known that I wanted to be an artist but my time at Crossroads really solidified that for me. The classes I took at Crossroads allowed me to deeply explore various mediums. I thrived with the support of their outstanding faculty.
