This professional development has been created by Ben Simmons, Behaviour Support Coach (BSC) for the Mid North–Clare and Yorke Peninsula partnerships.
As an educator with experience teaching in mainstream and special education, I have taught students from junior primary to high school in numerous complex schools across metropolitan and country contexts.
This resource is a response to the growing need at sites to have a proactive and responsive method of intervening in behaviour that is increasingly complex and resistant to our current practices and methodologies.
This professional development will deliver content around the broad topic of behaviour change in Education, focusing specifically on: Behaviour Change and Ethics, Contemporary Behaviour Theory, Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) and Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
This resource has been divided into three main components:
The Fogg model – the ‘why’ behaviour change works.
CPS – the ‘what’ we do.
PBIS – the ‘how’ we do it.
Each unit of work is broken down into small, manageable chunks and can be completed at the learner’s own pace.
This online platform will be used to deliver information in accordance with Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) conventions to aid in determining whether the platform is effective in providing complex behaviour theory and content. This resource is intended to assess the impact of the MOOC format in delivering behaviour theory and interventions to educators, not to assess the effects of the content on practice.
