Short for Group of Eight which refers to the exclusive but informal club of the world’s major economies (namely, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom, and United States) located in the global North and who meet annually to discuss, plan, coordinate matters of mutual concern. Note that this is not a static group in that it can sometimes be enlarged (as in G17 or G20, etc.) depending upon which countries are invited.
