COIL (Collaborative Online International Leaning) es una metodología que promueve el aprendizaje intercultural a través de la colaboración en línea entre profesores y estudiantes que residen en diferentes países y/o localidades dentro del contexto de un curso.
COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) is a methodology that promotes intercultural learning through online collaboration between teachers and students living in different countries and/or locations within the context of a course.

Vivimos en una sociedad multicultural y es común encontrarnos viviendo en una comunidad donde podemos identificar varios grupos culturales, pero ¿realmente podemos considerarnos ciudadanos globales? ¿reconocemos y entendemos las diferencias entre nuestras culturas? ¿nos involucramos e interactuamos con los demás? ¿tenemos herramientas para entender la diversidad y sentirnos cómodos en ella?
We live in a multicultural society, and it is common to find ourselves living in a community where we can identify various cultural groups, but can we really consider ourselves global citizens? Do we recognize and understand the differences between our cultures? Do we engage and interact with each other? Do we have the tools to understand diversity and feel comfortable in it?
Participar en una actividad COIL no solo nos introduce a la comunicación intercultural y a un crecimiento colaborativo de dimensión internacional, también nos facilita hacerlo de una forma sostenible a nivel ambiental y económico.
Participating in a COIL activity not only introduces us to intercultural communication and collaborative growth with an international dimension, but also makes it easier to do so in an environmentally and economically sustainable way.

Esta experiencia se basa en COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning), una metodología de enseñanza y aprendizaje desarrollada por Jon Rubin en la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York (SUNY).
This experience is based on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning), a teaching and learning methodology developed by Jon Rubin at the State University of New York (SUNY).
COIL combina las cuatro dimensiones esenciales de la movilidad virtual: es un ejercicio de colaboración entre profesores y estudiantes; hace uso de la tecnología para la interacción (sincrónica o asincrónica) en línea; requiere trabajo en equipo en una dimensión internacional; y se integra en el proceso de aprendizaje.
COIL combines the four essential dimensions of virtual exchange: it is a collaborative exercise between teachers and students; it makes use of technology for online interaction (synchronous or asynchronous); it requires teamwork in an international dimension; and it is integrated into the learning process.

Este intercambio virtual desarrollado a través de la metodología COIL es posible gracias a la colaboración de la Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona (España) y California State University, Chico (Estados Unidos de América).
This virtual exchange developed through the COIL methodology is possible thanks to the collaboration of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona (Spain) and California State University, Chico (United States of America).
Durante este semestre, los estudiantes de la asignatura Introducción a la psicología, impartida por el profesor José Manuel Gavilán en la URV, de Human cultural diversity y otros cursos impartidos y supervisados por el profesor David Eaton en la CSU Chico, y de Global nutrition impartida por la profesora Maria Giovanni en la CSU Chico, estarán unidos en este espacio de trabajo virtual facilitado por COIL.
During this semester, students of the course Introduction to Psychology, taught by Professor José Manuel Gavilán at the URV, students of Human cultural diversity and other courses taught and supervised by Professor David Eaton at CSU Chico, and of Global nutrition thaught by Professor Maria Giovanni, will be united in this virtual workspace facilitated by COIL.
