Professional Bio

Silvia Dorta-Duque de Reyes went to San Diego State University. Then, she was immediately hired as a bilingual teacher and as a dual language teacher. She worked happily as a teacher for a long time and then went to work at the San Diego County Office of Education. She worked there for 20 years and was able to do a lot of professional development and writing of units in Spanish and ELD for writing with The Wright Institute. After that, she worked with the State Department of Education to help craft the ELD standards. There, she also worked with the framework committee. Dorta-Duque de Reyes was also in charge of the translation and the linguistic augmentation of the Common Core Standards into Spanish. She won the 2018 NABE Leadership Award, the National Association of Bilingual Education.
