How can we, as wellness advocates, promote healthy choices and communicate the impact on our lives?
Fifth graders explore the importance of healthy eating and how nutrition affects physical activity and mental wellness in their community. They investigate local health issues, such as obesity rates and access to healthy foods, investigate the spread of harmful microorganisms and how beneficial microorganisms aid humans and how these factors affect the overall well-being of community members. This PBL connects to their daily lives as they consider the choices they make and how these can influence their health and the health of others. Students will grow healthy foods in our school gardens, and plan and prepare healthy snacks to share within our school community. Students share their learning with the school community at Family STEM Night and end-of-year presentations.
