2.6 Investigative Research

Kindergarteners explore what sinks and what floats from a variety of items found in nature. They make predictions about whether items will sink or float.

Kindergarteners explore and sort items from the garden based on their attributes and whether they are living or non-living.

1st Graders Participate in the Create Southeast Pollinator Census as they Investigate How Their Work in the Garden Impacts the Number of Pollinators Visiting CLES. 

1st Graders Collect Weather Data in the Garden Weekly and Graph the Data in the 1st Grade Weather Graph

2nd graders research the importance of pollinators. They come up with a plan to increase the number of pollinators at CLES based on data they collect. 

2nd graders investigate patterns of the sun and moon, observing phases of the moon and the impact of the sun's location in the sky on shadows.

3rd graders identify that waste is a significant issue on our school campus. Through organized campus walks, they investigate the waste around our school and create graphs with the data they collect. Together, they work on solutions to minimize waste at CLES. 

3rd graders research and investigate the physical attributes of rocks and soils. Students conduct research, participate in hands-on comparisons of rocks vs. minerals, and find rocks and minerals on our campus.

Resident Expert Research Presentation

4th graders research what can and cannot be composted in residential compost bins for our school gardens. They also research the efficiency of various collection systems.

Students work through a series of activities and labs related to digestion and physical and chemical changes.

Students research how different landforms are formed, either through constructive or destructive processes. They write an argument about how a chosen landform is created using the CER process.
